The Reel Talk Zine – Seasonal Horror

Reel Talk’s Seasonal Horror Zine had its official launch this week, with distribution taking place at Warwick Film and Television Studies’ student Christmas party!

Students were able to flick through the zine, reading through reviews and film recommendations written for the blog, now in print. Despite not being typical horror fans, many were excited to join in with interactive pages, including a word search and personalised quiz revealing ‘what horror girl are you!’.

Within the zine features a Stranger Things themed piece, including a special feature about a talk with Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who plays Vecna, Stranger Things’ leading antagonist. Students were able to reminisce over the show’s past seasons, admitting to having a complicated love for the show. What started out being a small-town mystery in the early seasons has now become a big-budget production and almost a parody of itself, which has led to fans admittedly falling out of love with the show, only watching now for the sake of finishing the story. Nevertheless, smiles were shared at the fondness of pre-pubescent memories, running home from school, just to binge an entire season in one day. Whilst it has taken almost 10 years to finish, it’s hard to really hate the show when it brings on such great feelings of nostalgia.

A digital version of the zine is available to read and download below, but feel free to help yourself to a physical copy if you spot one – there are some in the Film and Television Studies space in the Faculty of Arts Building!
