We Live in Time (2025) is the first film I watched of the year, and still such a memorable one. Starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, the romance-drama film follows a decade of the couple’s time together after they meet on chance encounter. There’s something so refreshing about seeing such a simple yet honest depiction of love on screen, especially by two people who aren’t in their late teens or early twenties. The film allows you to sit in quiet patience and with wilful acceptance that love will come to us at the right time.

The film’s timeline jumps around in non-chronological order which, upon rewatch, I realised I appreciate a lot more because this construction emphasises how precious time is. I like to contemplate whether it should be viewed through Almut or Tobias’ perspective. Although it’s a unified portrayal of the journey through their time together, I think if you shift whose perspective you view the story from, you start to realise, understand and appreciate what they both individually need or desire, which makes their commitment to each other and their willingness to share time beautiful.

After watching, I took myself on a solo-trip around London, visiting the filming locations. It was a lovely trip and amusing to see that these spots in real life are just normal boring space. Yet, the excitement and joy I felt being stood there because of the meaning that is attached to them. Life is funny like that and I find it beautiful. In that way, this film taught me to appreciate so many little things that I am so grateful for and, quite simply, I love to see love.

Let’s go on a journey through these filming locations together:

1. Bromfelde Road and the house where Almut and Tobias initially lived

2. Herne Hill, the setting where both characters meet, live and fall in love

3. Lulus which is a restaurant featured prominently in the film

4. Brockwell Park where Almut and Tobias often wander through together

Now let’s look at these spaces again, lit up by the magic of the film:

1.Bromfelde Road

2. Lulus

3. Brockwell Park
