La Haine – Podcast

In this podcast Alex Santos-Edgar and José Arroyo discuss the impact of La Haine, both on youth culture, and as a film that deals with its heavy themes in an unflinching manner. Elements such as the stylistic qualities of the film, its links to American pop culture, and ideas of masculinity amongst other socio-political influences are all delved into, providing an interesting conversation through the framing of race and the marginalisation of non-French whites from the rest of Parisian society.  There are perhaps few films that have had as much of a lasting impact on deconstructing an idealised, romanticised Paris and La Haine’s themes remain just as relevant now as they were upon its release in 1995.
